In Years 7 and 8 pupils will focus on developing the skills necessary for Key Stage 4 and their GCSEs. Several novels and non-fiction texts are studied throughout each year. The chosen texts vary from twenty first century stories to more classical literature, including the study of a Shakespeare play in both Year 7 and 8.Opportunities are provided for high quality discussion to extend the skills of inference and deduction and to consider a writer’s choice of language to create effect. Emphasis is placed on pupils’ writing responses to literature through an essay style, in preparation for GCSE work.

We continue to focus on developing pupils skills in spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary in order to further enhance their skills in both reading and writing.
